The competition format
How the WNBL works
28 teams from all over Germany, four stages, one goal: the TOP4 in Berlin. The preliminary round already decides whether a team plays for the title afterwards or against relegation.
Main round or relegation
December 2026 to February 2027
Main round: twelve teams in two groups of six, home and away, ten games. Our group 4 is combined with group 3.
Relegation: 16 teams in two groups of eight, eleven games. The first-leg results against teams from the same preliminary group carry over.
- Main round: all twelve teams reach the playoffs.
- Relegation places 1–2: playoffs and a place for 2027/28.
- Relegation places 3–8: playdowns.
Playoffs or playdowns
March to April 2027
Every series is best of three. The higher-ranked team has home advantage in the first and a possible third game.
- Playoffs: 16 teams, two rounds — the four winners go to the TOP4.
- Playdowns: twelve teams play against relegation. Three teams are relegated.
TOP4
21 to 23 May 2027 · Berlin
Semi-finals and final for the German championship — a joint event with the boys’ U19 (NBBL) and U16 (JBBL).
